Vests are commonplace on the battlefield. They do a great job of stopping projectiles and keeping tactical gear within reach but they are not without problems. It was found that the traditional 4 pocket BDU style shirt was not going to cut it under the vests. The problem being that you could not access the shirt pockets as the vest was in the way, and if you could, you didn’t want to put anything bulky in those pockets due to the discomfort that would arise!
Realizing this as a problem, our designers put an oversize pocket on each arm just below the shoulder. Making sure the pocket was easy to use, especially while wearing bulky vests, our designers thoughtfully closed the pocket with an YKK coil zipper. No annoying flaps! Then they got carried away. While adding pockets to the sleeves, they decided to add some more to the forearm / elbow area. These pockets secure with Velcro or Ykk Cosmolon and are ideal for foam padding. Especially useful when prone shooting.
We recommend mechanic’s tool box drawer liner foam for this application as it is not too bulky. Comfort plays big part in the soldiers life due to there being so little of it, so our designers added sleeve slings to allow the sleeve to be rolled up for extra ventilation. Further enhancing the comfort aspects of the OPS Shirt the collar is extra tall, helping to eliminate possible neck chaffing from slings and straps.
Never forgetting that this is indeed a military field shirt Velcro or Ykk Cosmolon patches for nametapes and insignia are provided, as is a sternum mounted rank tab. The shirts full cut and extra long tail can be tucked in or bloused over the pants. Order the shirt the real operators are using. The Drop Zone Ops Shirt. OPS PantsKnowing that truly dapper operators wouldn’t be without matching pants, we developed, the OPS Pant. But not before thorough testing. The first idea we had was to move the cargo pockets from the side of the leg to the front. The reasoning for this was to make more sitting room in helicopters and APC’s as well as to reduce snagging in the brush. While moving the pocket to the front did give us more sitting room, it proved annoying while prone. Not such a good idea for dismounted troops. Back to the original side placement. We did however, eliminate the cargo pocket pleats, which in turn almost eliminated the snagging experience! The elimination of the pleats reduced the pocket’s capacity, slightly but no complaints so far. As an added bonus, we borrowed the “hidden” folding knife pocket from our Better BDU Pant and incorporated it into the OPS Pant’s cargo pockets. Yes, that’s right. Pockets. Both cargo pockets can carry hidden folding knives. To top off the cargo and rear seat pockets, double flaps are provided, hiding the button closures and helping to prevent snagging of the buttons. While rolling in the dirt testing the cargo pockets we discovered our knees were taking a beating. Our solution was to make a pocket, Velcro® or Ykk Cosmolon® closed, that would accept a thin layer of foam (tool box drawer liner works well). This thin layer of foam takes the bite out of kneeling, going prone, and crawling.
The front slash pockets are, as per our SOP, lined with the same fabric the rest of the pant is made of, providing exceptional durability. At last, no more coins dropping into your boots. The slash pockets are deep, adding a bit more security to items that are “slipped” into the pocket during the “heat of the moment”. Like our now famous Better BDU Pant, the OPS Pant boasts a double butt for extended durability. Large 2”/ 52-57mm belt loops are provided to make room for the heaviest of the reinforced “riggers belts” so popular with the professional operators today.
With performance and durability being the watchwords at Drop Zone no detail is left untouched. All high stress points are bar tacked to prevent tear out. The buttons are the famous Canadian Army “taped” buttons to eliminate loss. Even the fly does not escape the obsessive ness of our designers being finished with a Ykk® zipper for smooth, malfunction free action. After all when a man’s gotta go he’s gotta go!
